The group of Dorothee Kretschmer, collaborative Research Center 685, has an open position for a PhD student starting Oct 15, 2015 or later. Candidates should have a degree in Biochemistry, Biology or Molecular Medicine.
We are a small team of young motivated scientist. Our main research focuses lies on host-pathogen interaction between secreted Staphylococcus aureus PSM proteins and leukocytes, especially neutrophils. Particularly, we analyze receptor activation by these peptides.
We use immunological methods to analyze leukocyte activation, e.g. ELISA for cytokine/chemokine secretion, immunoblotting, trans-well migration assays, calcium mobilization, degranulation and so on. We use isolated primary human neutrophils, monocytes and cell lines. Bacteriological and molecular techniques are employed to study S. aureus virulence factors. The in vivo relevance of molecular interaction is studied in a variety of animal models.
We are offering excellent working conditions in a young and highly motivated team. We expect openness for teamwork, new techniques, and independent research.
