Scientist / Postdoc Position in Functional Genomics / High-Throughput Sequencing

 

Applications are invited for a scientist/postdoctoral position in functional genomics/high­throughput sequencing at the Core Unit Systems Medicine (SysMed) – a joint institution of the University of Würzburg and the University Hospital of Würzburg, Germany. The future holder of the position will coordinate and supervise the high-throughput sequencing activities of the Core Unit SysMed (e.g. RNA/DNA sequencing projects, supervision of technicians, reporting and documentation of projects) as well as establish new deep sequencing protocols (e.g. Nanopore sequencing).

 

Applicants should have a doctoral / PhD degree and a strong background in deep sequencing approaches and technologies (preferentially Illumina systems) / Molecular Biology / RNA biology / genomics approaches. Additional knowledge in project management and proficiency in German would be beneficial.

The Core Unit SysMed provides a highly dynamic research environment and excellent career opportunities. Researchers of the unit are involved in numerous internal and external collaborative projects that employ deep sequencing technologies and/or bioinformatics analyses (see e.g. Westermann et al., 2016, Nature, 28;529(7587):496-501; Saliba et al., 2016, Nat Microbiol, 14;2:16206,; Müller et al., 2018, Nature, 563(7729):121-125; Dugar et al., 2018, Mol Cell, 69(5):893-905.e7; Maurus et al., 2018, J Invest Dermatol, 138(7):1573- 1581).

 

Salary will be based on the pay scale for the public sector in Germany (TV-L) and will commensurate with qualification. The position can be filled in full- or part-time and will be initially limited to 2 years with scheduled and funded possibility for extension.

 

Preference will be given to handicapped persons in case of otherwise equal aptitude. The University and University Hospital aim at increasing the proportion of female employees.
