Postdoc (m/f)

The Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI), Jena (Germany), is a federal and state government-funded research institute and member of the Leibniz Association (Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm
Leibniz e.V.). FLI’s internationally visible and highly competitive research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of aging and associated age-related diseases. More than 220 scientists from over 30 countries are currently investigating the molecular mechanisms of aging and the occurrence of age-related diseases. Our aim is to create the basis for new approaches in medicine as a way to improve health in the elderly (www.leibniz-fli.de).

The ʺMembrane Trafficking in Agingʺ group, headed by Dr. Christoph Kaether  invites applications for a

Postdoc Position (m/f)

Activities and responsibilities

Tasks and Challenges:
The group works on the structure and function of the endo-plasmic reticulum (ER). We are interested in the molecular
mechanisms of ER export, specifically in a step that is sensitive
to the secretion inhibitor FLI-06 that we identified (Krämer et al. Nature Chem Biol 2013, Yonemura et al. JCS 2016).

Using CRISPR-based gain- and loss-of-function screens we
identified a number of genes that are involved in this step.

The applicant’s task is to further characterize the hits using cell biological and biochemical tools (construction of fusion proteins, confocal-, live- and super resolution-microscopy, Western Blot, Co-immunoprecipitation, siRNA, shRNA, CRISPR).

· University Degree (PhD, M.D. or equivalent) in
Biology, Life Science or Biomedicine
· Highly self-motivated with a genuine interest in cell biology/membrane transport
· Excellent team-working capabilities
· Profound knowledge in at least two of the following techniques: cell culture, high-end microscopy, molecular biology, biochemistry.

Benefits

We offer:
· A position in a well-equipped research group of a high quality institute for age  research, which harbours several state-of-the-art facilities. Our work is embedded in the Beutenberg Campus, an interdisciplinary base for innovative research.

About Leibniz-Institut für Alternsforschung

Außeruniversitäre Forschungseinrichtung Mitglied der Leibniz Gemeinschaft  (WGL) Our Mission Human ageing is a multifactorial process controlled by both environmental and genetic factors. Our mission is to understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie the ageing process and that lead to age-related diseases. We hope that eventually this knowledge can contribute to a more healthy...
