At TU Dresden, Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, Institute of Microbiology the Chair of Microbial Diversity offers a position as
 
Research Fellow
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E13 TV-L)
 
starting at the earliest possible date. The position entails 65 % of the fulltime weekly hours and is initially limited for 33 months. The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).
Tasks: This basic research project funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) aims at elucidating the mechanism of the RNA-mediated insertion of the unusual amino acid selenocysteine into proteins of strictly anaerobic methanogenic model organisms. To this end, genetic, biochemical, and molecular methods will be employed. The group is superbly equipped for anaerobic lab work.
Requirements: Successful university degree (Master or diploma or comparable degree) in Biology or related disciplines with a clear emphasis of Microbiology and/or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. We seek a highly motivated scientist proficient in microbiological, biochemical and molecular techniques and above-average commitment. Experience in working with strictly anaerobic microorganisms and/or RNA is highly appreciated.
