Respirasome dynamics and turnover in activated T lymphocytes

The Research Group „Cellular Proteomics“ (Head: Prof. Dr. Lothar Jänsch) within the Department Structure and Function of Proteins at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig is looking for a

PhD candidate

for a project that is part of a joint graduate school PROCOMPASS with the Technical University of Braunschweig. The aim of the project “Respirasome dynamics and turnover in activated T lymphocytes” is the investigation of structure and dynamics of protein supercomplexes in the respiratory chain of mitochondria of human immune cells.

Project:
This PhD project intends to investigate the composition and dynamics of mitochondrial respirasomes from activated human T lymphocytes using an established proteomic workflow (UPLC-Orbitrap Fusion-MS quantitative peptide sequencing and PTM determination). Focus of the project will be the (i) dynamic reorganisation of respirasomes during activation of human T cells and (ii) the localisation of sites of production of reactive oxygens species (ROS). The workflow entails isolation and activation of human T cells, purification of mitochondria and protein complexes as well as determination of protein abundances and modifications.

Qualifications:
  • Master degree in Biology, Biotechnology or Biochemistry
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in working with proteins and mammalian cells
  • Strong interest in molecular immunology
  • Strong motivation, being a good team player, willing to work in an international group
  • Speaking and writing English fluently

With equal professional qualification, severely disabled persons will be prioritized.
