1 PhD position (Doktorandenstelle (f/m/d)) in Molecular Cell Biology

We are one of the youngest universities in Germany and think in terms of possibilities, not limitations. In the heart of the Ruhrregion, we develop ideas of the future at our 11 faculties. We are strong in research and teaching, live diversity, support potential and are highly committed to an educational equality that has earned this name.

Activities and responsibilities

The University of Duisburg-Essen (Campus Essen)
Centre for Medical Biotechnology (ZMB) offers

1 PhD position, Doktorandenstelle (f/m/d)
(Part-time 50%; salary equivalent TV-L 13)

in “Molecular Cell Biology of Lysosome Homeostasis and Autophagy”

Qualified candidates are invited to apply to join the group of Prof. Dr. Hemmo Meyer. The project will aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the Endolysosomal Damage Response and autophagy with a special focus on the role of the ubiquitin proteasome system. The pathway and its regulation is critical for counteracting muscle and neuronal degeneration. The model system is human tissue culture cells. Approaches will include CRISPR/Cas9 and RNAi-based screening, advanced light microscopy, proteomics and biochemical analysis. The project is part of a team effort. Qualification profile

The successful candidate (f/m/d) will hold a Master in Biology or related areas. He/she has an excellent track record including experimental experience in molecular cell biology and advanced light microscopy of human tissue culture cells. Candidates will benefit from the international and interdisciplinary research environment at the ZMB, excellent facilities and a structured PhD training program (BIOME). The ZMB in Essen integrates medical research at the University Hospital and natural sciences at the Campus. The mission is to elucidate molecular mechanisms of disease and to turn this knowledge into medical progress.
