2019-18 PhD position (m/f/d)

The Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) is a foundation under public law and member of the Leibniz Association. About 300 employees are performing basic and applied research in the field of the biology of farm animals. The Institute provides an interdisciplinary research environment and excellent experimental and analytical facilities.

Activities and responsibilities

Research and own qualification within a collaborative project (“Phosphorus as a metabolic regulator during environmental
stress in animals”) which is supported by the Leibniz ScienceCampus Phosphorus Research Rostock. To determine the role of reversible phosphorylation of mitochondrial proteins in metabolic regulation during hypoxic Stress´ and to identify the key molecule targets of P-dependent metabolic regulation in organisms with different hypoxia tolerance. This project aims to compare the role of reversible phosphorylation in the regulation of aerobic energy metabolism and stress tolerance during hypoxia stress´ in hypoxia-tolerant marine invertebrates with hypoxia-sensitive invertebrates and hypoxia-sensitive vertebrate tissues (domestic pigs).

Qualification profile

-      Master degree, diploma, or an analogous degree in biology, physiology, animal science or related fields
-      High motivation and willingness to learn new techniques and approaches in metabolic physiology and molecular biology
-      Ability to work in an international team
-      Willingness to work with domestics as well as marine animals
-      Ability to plan, organize and conduct independent research
-      Fluency in English (oral and written) and strong communication skills

Benefits

We are offering:
-      Interesting and challenging research in a performance-orientated and family-friendly environment
-      Modern research facilities and a strong focus on international collaboration
