The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics is an international research institute with approx. 250 employees, working in the field of medical genomics. A special focus lies on genome analysis of man and other organisms.
The working group “Gene Regulation and Systems Biology of Cancer” (Head: Dr. Marie-Laure Yaspo) in Berlin invites applications for the following open position:
Bioinformatician (f/m)
(TVöD E13)
Code: 15-20 V
The successful candidate will be involved in the analysis of next generation sequencing data, with an emphasis on global transcriptomics of cancer cells. The tasks will include the analysis of differential gene expression profiles, gene regulation networks and alternative splicing events. Besides, the integration and visualisation of multiple datasets will represent major aspects of the work.
In the framework of cancer genomics and biomarker discovery research programs, we are looking for a skilled bioinformatician at the Master or Post-doctoral level. The candidate should have a strong background in statistics and computational biology, including object-oriented programming (C++, JAVA, Perl, Python), as well as experience in web-programming (e.g. MySQL) and in Matlab. Knowledge of R programming language is required, and so is an understanding of molecular genetics and/or mathematics. The candidate should be strongly motivated, team-oriented and have excellent communication skills.
Our team is composed of a blend of molecular biologists and bioinformaticians, and includes an Illumina-based NGS platform.
The position is offered initially for one year with the possibility of extension.
The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
