Biologist, Biochemist, Scientist as PhD Student

The Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Biomedicine and the University of Münster have opening for two

PhD Students
(position-code 01-2016)

in the Department Tissue Morphogenesis (Prof. Dr. Ralf H. Adams and Dr. Mara E. Pitulescu, Prof. Dr. Wiebke Herzog).

Blood vessels play essential roles in vertebrate organisms and are also directly involved in a range of disease conditions such as cancer. We are studying the signaling processes controlling the angiogenic growth of the vasculature, the interactions between different cell types in the vessel wall, and the communication between blood vessels, the surrounding organs and stem/progenitor cells. Technical approaches include genetic studies in mice and zebrafish, confocal and time-lapse microscopy, immunohistochemistry, cell/tissue culture, biochemistry, molecular biology, Crispr/Cas mediated genome editing, and bioinformatics.

The Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine (http://www.mpi-muenster.mpg.de/en/index.html) offers an excellent research environment with strong local links to the Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation (http://zmbe.uni-muenster.de/center/centerindex.htm) and the University of Muenster (http://www.uni-muenster.de/en/index.html). Service facilities for Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting, electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, and the production of genetically modified mice provide core support.

We invite applications by enthusiastic, committed and highly talented PhD students who wish to join our new department. Funding is initially offered for three years with the possibility of extension. Good communication skills in English are necessary as English is the primary language in our laboratory.

The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. Furthermore the Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.
