Head of the Electron Microscopy Facility (m/f)

We are seeking a highly interdisciplinary scientist (m/f) with notable research achievements and a broad methodological repertoire. Research at our institute addresses fundamental questions of modern biology at the molecular, cellular, and organismic level. Candidates should hold a PhD in the life sciences, biophysics or a related field and have broad experience in the area of cellular and immuno-electron microscopy. Additionally, experience in molecular cryoelectron microscopy is desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish procedures, operate and maintain the facility, collaborate with our research groups and provide guidance to scientists and graduate students on campus. We place great value on our close collaboration with the University of Tübingen and would like to see this deepened and extended.

The EM facility at our institute has appropriate staff trained in specimen preparation and image processing. Instrumentation includes two electron microscopes (a Hitachi S-800 FE-SEM and a FEI Tecnai Spirit Biotwin for cryo-TEM), and dedicated machines for high-pressure freezing, freeze-substitution and sectioning. The successful candidate will advise us on the upgrade and modernization of the facility. For more information please contact the interim head of the facility, Dr. G.
