Max Planck Summer Internship Program

Our Summer Internship Program provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to join one of the labs at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry. The program will allow you to become familiar with different scientific approaches and laboratory methods. The aim of our internship program is to provide excellent students with a broad range of research experiences and knowledge to promote them early on in their careers.

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology are located door-to-door at the life science campus Martinsried. The working language at both institutes is English.
The Campus Martinsried lies at the outskirts of Munich, not far away from the Bavarian Alps.

Activities and responsibilities

You can indicate up to five of our research groups you prefer to work with. Your research will be in fields ranging from structural, computational, developmental and cellular biology to molecular biology, biophysics and neurobiology. For more information on our research groups, please visit research groups of MPI of Neurobiology and research groups of MPI of Biochemistry.

The following groups have already indicated that they will accept interns in 2020: Conti, Cox, Griesbeck, Baier, Murray and Schwille. Applicants are encouraged to include these groups in their application to increase their chances, but should also indicate what other groups may be of interest to them.

Qualification profile

Highly motivated bachelor’s and master’s students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Psychology and related fields can apply.
We highly encourage applications from excellent students from all countries. We are happy to assist successful applicants with questions concerning visa requirements.

We offer

This is a fully-funded internship program. Successful applicants will benefit from the following:
  • Free student accommodation
