PhD Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry as Post Doc - Functional Analysis of Mitotic Chromatin Decondensation (m/f/d)

The Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology is offering a

Post Doc position (m/f/d), Biology, Biochemistry or a related field

The position is offered on a temporary contract for 3 years (project-related) as a full time position (38,5 h/w).

Our Project:

Functional analysis of mitotic chromatin decondensation.
In metazoan, the chromatin massively condenses to rod-shaped and light microscopically visible chromosomes early in mitosis and decondenses in telophase to re-establish the interphase chromatin state competent for transcription and replication.
We analyze the molecular mechanisms of chromatin decondensation using biochemical and cellular assays. In in vitro  reconstitution systems we recapitulate crucial steps of chromatin decompaction and identify and characterize essential factors,
see e.g. Magalska et al, Dev Cell 31: 305-318. By life cell imaging we study the process in cells and its interplay with other cellular processes such as spindle disassembly, nuclear reformation or nuclear transport. More information can be found on our homepage (www.molcellbiol.ukaachen.de) and in the publications listed there.

Your profile:

  • PhD or equivalent in biochemistry, biology, chemistry and/or molecular cell biology
  • experience in protein expression and purification and confocal microscopy is preferable
  • interest in combining biochemical methods and life cell imaging to unravel the molecular mechanisms of fundamental cell biological processes
The salary is based on the german public service salary scale 13 TV-L.
