PhD Position (m/f/d) Molecular Biology/Medicine, Biomedicine or Biochemistry

Activities and responsibilities

TNBC is an extremely difficult to treat and hardly curable form of breast cancer with a high frequency of metastasis. Today's research uses a few cell lines to study this type of tumor in vitro. In our group, a method was developed to isolate cancer stem cells (CSCs) from the tumor tissue of patients and to cultivate them in high purity. Within the framework of a screening project, several kinases were identified whose inhibition can trigger a differentiation of CSCs. These preliminary results will be analyzed and verified in detail and active chemical components with an effect on these kinases will be identified for the treatment of TNBC. The candidate will address a topic that prepares new avenues in medical research, such as: Patient-oriented medicine.

Qualification profile

  • an excellent Master's degree in Molecular Biology/Medicine, Biomedicine or Biochemistry
  • good knowledge of the English language
  • high motivation and strong commitment
  • independence and flexibility
  • knowledge in the fields of molecular biology and cell biology are highly beneficial, but not mandatory

  • exciting project at the interface of basic research and clinical application
  • broad, state-of-the-art method spectrum
  • dynamic team covering aspects of medicine and biology
