In the field of  “RNA modifications under stress” the research group of Prof. Mark Helm offers the following PhD project: Assessment of RNA modification dynamics in stress and neurological disorders

Description:

This project involves a tripartite cooperation of groups from Pharmacy, the IMB, and the medical department. The task is to analyze a correlation of the expression of certain RNA methyltransferases in mouse brain tissue to the occurrence of m6A in RNA obtained from the same tissue. Furthermore, an aim is to observe dynamics of these two parameters in response to outside stimuli such as, chronic social defeat stress, chemically induced seizures, and diet-induced obesity. The three labs are situated in a 200 m radius from the IMB, and successful applicants are required to have good coordination and social skills and enough curiosity to enter the scientific cultures of all partner labs.
