PhD Student in the field of Infection and Immunity

The PhD Student will join the LIH’s Infectious Diseases Research Unit, Department of Infection and Immunity. The projects monitor antigenic and genetic variations of human (influenza, hepatitis B, C, measles, rubella ao) and/or veterinary viruses and the molecular epidemiology of these viruses and analyze anti-virus host interactions. The candidate should be ready to spent 2-3 months per year in the laboratory of the Department (LaoLuxLab) in Vientiene, Laos or at the locations of collaborating partners mainly in Asia.

Key Accountabilities
  • Carry out his/her PhD in accordance with the conditions agreed between the university and the laboratory (PhD supervisor: Prof. Dr. Claude P. Muller)
  • Carry out experimental laboratory work as required by the PhD project
  • Collaborate with the researchers involved in the research project
  • Develop scientific methodologies and techniques adapted to the research project
  • State-of-the-art documentation of experiments, procedures and results
  • Participation at internal meetings of the Department in Luxembourg and abroad
  • Writing of projects, reports, publications
  • Present the project and results during laboratory meetings and at national/international meetings
  • Communicate problems and suggestions for possible solutions in a clear way
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • Master in Life Sciences: Biology / Biomedicine / Biochemistry / Virology / Molecular Biology, Biostatistics, Epidemiology...
  • A strong academic record/knowledge in virology and molecular biology of viruses and/or viral immunology and biostatistics/epidemiology is essential
  • Excellent time management, rigor, motivation, scientific creativity and originality, conciseness, sense of priority and sense of human relations, punctual and reliable. Excellent proficiency in English and scientific writing skills are a must
