PhD Student position in Cell Biology/Cancer Research: Analyses of mitosis and cytoskeletal regulation in human cancer cells

The lab of Prof. Holger Bastians, Ph.D., at the Goettingen Center of Molecular Biosciences (GZMB) and University Medical Center Goettingen (UMG) is seeking a highly motivated PhD student with a keen interest in cell and molecular biology.

Our lab recently discovered that abnormal microtubule dynamics underlies chromosome misssegregation during mitosis, a hallmark phenotype of human cancer contributing to tumorigenesis, tumor progression and therapy resistance (see: e.g. Stolz et al., Nature Cell Biology 2010; Ertych et al., Nature Cell Biology 2014; Stolz et al,  EMBO Reports 2015; Lüddecke et al., Oncogene 2015).

The planned project will focus on the molecular and cell biological mechanisms leading to abnormal microtubule behavior and the generation of aneuploid karyotypes in cancer cells.
In addition, we plan to analyze how the de-regulation of cytoskeletal components might impact on tumor progression, in particular on tumor cell invasion and mechanisms of metastasis.
For this, we employ human cell models and state-of-the-art techniques including live cell imaging and deconvolution microscopy.

During the project we offer excellent supervision, intense collaborations within a small team and a highly productive scientific environment.

We are specifically looking for candidates with a true interest in basic research in cell and molecular biology. Experience in cell biology and microscopy and human tissue culture work would be a plus. The candidate should hold a Master degree in biology, molecular medicine, human biology or related areas (not required for application).

Please send your full application including CV, description of previous lab experience, list of methods, current transcripts of the Bachelor and Master programs and the names and addresses of at  least two references as a
SINGLE PDF FILE to:
Prof. Holger Bastians; email: holger.bastians@uni-goettingen.de

Deadline for applications is Ocotober 31st -- beginn of the lab work will be discussed with the selected candidate.
