with a weekly working time of 39.83 hours (100% position). The salary is based on the German TVL-13 scale if terms and conditions under collective bargaining law are fulfilled. The initial contract is limited for one year and is renewable for one or two more years.

The Research Center Molecular Basis of Evolutionary Innovations is a leading consortium in experimental and theoretical studies of evolutionary processes. It offers an exciting interdisciplinary research environment at the interface between physics and quantitative biology. Cologne is a large German city that has a wide range of recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities.

This is an opportunity for an exceptionally qualified physicist to work on evolution. Lab interests include predictive evolutionary theory, the evolution of gene regulation, complex phenotypes and molecular networks. Current empirical projects are predictive models of the influenza virus and adaptive dynamics in microbes and the fruit fly.

Candidates should hold a university diploma and a PhD in physics, biology or a related field. Applicants should have a strong background in statistical physics and a genuine interest in biology. For more details, see the lab website http://www.thp.uni-koeln.de/~lassig .

The University of Cologne is an equal opportunities employer. Applications of women are thus especially encouraged; applications of disabled persons will be given preferential treatment to those of other candidates with equal qualifications.

Applications and enquiries should be directed to Christa Stitz ( cstitz@uni-koeln.de ). Applications should include a CV, a list of publications, and a substantial research statement outlining how your research interests are linked to our lab. Two letters of recommendation should be sent independently to the same address.

Deadline is 31st December, 2015. Later applications will be considered until the position is filled.
