Scientist Biology, Chemistry as Postdoc - Protein engineering (m/f/d)

Postdoctoral Positions (m/f/d) (Code number 08/2019)

Postdoctoral positions (2 years or longer) are available at the Department of Chemical Biology (Prof. Kai Johnsson) of the Max Planck Institute of Medical Research in Heidelberg.

The goal of the project is the development of lead compounds against new nociceptor-selective protein targets suitable for pain therapy. The successful candidates will develop novel approaches for the selection of small molecules from encoded combinatorial libraries (phage display, DNA display) that specifically bind to complex protein targets. Molecules generated through these approaches will subsequently be evaluated in innovative, disease-relevant biological assays. The project is part of a long-term collaboration with groups from Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Priority will be given to candidates with previous experiences with encoded combinatorial libraries (phage display or DNA display), or in the fields of protein engineering and chemical biology.

At the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, one of the 84 institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, physicists, chemists and biologists create knowledge of long-term relevance to life and basic medical sciences.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds. A daycare center for children is located near the institute.

About Max Planck Institute for Medical Research

At the MPI for Medical Research, physicists, chemists and biologists create knowledge of long-term relevance to basic medical science. With the arrival of three new directors in 2015/16, the institute has a new unifying theme: observing and controlling the vastly complex macromolecular interactions in the context of cells - both in health and disease. The presently four departments contribute...
