Scientist - Process Development (m/f/x)

With operations in 35+ nations and ~ 20,000 employees worldwide, CSL is driven to develop and deliver a broad range of lifesaving therapies to treat disorders such as hemophilia and primary immune deficiencies, and vaccines to prevent influenza. Our therapies are also used in cardiac surgery, organ transplantation and burn treatment.

CSL is the parent company of CSL Behring and Seqirus. CSL Behring is a global leader in the protein biotherapeutics industry, focused on bringing to market biotherapies used to treat serious and often rare conditions. CSL Behring operates CSL Plasma , one of the world's largest collectors of human plasma, which is used to create CSL’s therapies. Seqirus is the second largest influenza vaccine company in the world and is a transcontinental partner in pandemic preparedness and a major contributor to the prevention and control of influenza globally.

Role
Join our motivated and committed Early Stage Downstream Process Development team dedicated to the development of robust and economic manufacturing processes for CSLs recombinant therapeutic candidate proteins. We work collaboratively and cross-functionally to ensure that these manufacturing processes are developed to meet the highest quality standards suitable for human therapeutic use.
As a Scientist working in our team you actively contribute to our mission by bringing your passion and expertise in the field of High Throughput Process Development of downstream unit operations for recombinant proteins (mAb and non-mAb molecules).

In your new role you independently plan, execute, evaluate, report and present high throughput process development studies conducted on our liquid handling systems and state-of-the-art technological platforms. The results you generate directly translate into the establishment of scalable and robust manufacturing processes.

If you are an agile, tech-savvy person that has a high attention to detail and is open-minded towards new innovative technologies and digital connectivity we are looking forward to meeting you.

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Independent planning and hands-on execution of high throughput process development studies (e.g. chromatography resin screening, operating range screens) on liquid handling systems and chromatography runs at lab-scale for recombinant molecules (mAb and non-mAb)
  • Establishment and implementation of standardized process development workflows including programming/scripting of routines for operation of liquid handling systems and data handling
  • Statistical analysis of large data sets and communication and presentation of study results in cross-functional and cross-departmental project teams
  • Coordination of sample submission and bioanalytical testing and communication of testing requirements
  • Creation and maintenance of laboratory records within internal documentation systems such as electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)
  • Development of experimental study designs (DoE studies) in agreement with project requirements
  • Writing of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), study plans and development reports
  • Contributions at conferences and creation of publication drafts and support of regulatory submissions
  • Coordination of maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment according to specific quality standards (e.g. GSP)
Experience in the following areas is an advantage:
  • Strong scientific background in protein sciences, protein purification (e.g. on TECAN and/or ÄKTA systems) and/or protein characterization
  • Experience in the field of dataset handling, scripting and statistical analysis (JMP/SAS)
  • Simulation and modelling of downstream unit operations
  • New developments in the field of Bioprocess Innovation and Process Intensification
  • Proven ability to work efficiently, both independently or in a cross-functional, multicultural and international team setting, and to meet set goals by managing own timelines
  • Strong planning, communication (German and English, written and oral) and organizational skills

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A University Degree in a relevant field of Science (e.g. Bachelor of Science in biology)
  • Project experience and knowledge of relevant high throughput process development and analytical methods
  • English Level 2
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience
