(Part-time 50%; salary equivalent TV-L 13)

in Protein Biochemistry / Molecular Cell Biology

The group of Prof. Hemmo Meyer is interested in protein quality control and cellular stress responses relevant for (neuro-)degenerative diseases and aging. This project aims at understanding mechanisms of dynamic protein complex assembly and its regulation by ubiquitination and the VCP/p97 chaperone using reconstitution approaches. The laboratory applies state-of-the-art biochemical methodology and integrates them in a multidisciplinary approach with cell biologists and chemists. Association with the SFB1093 “Supramolecular chemistry on proteins” is intended. Further reading: Meyer et al., Nat. Cell Biol., 2012, 14:117-23, Ritz et al., Nat. The successful candidate (f/m) will hold a Master in Biology or Chemistry and has a proven experience and strong interest in protein biochemistry. Candidates will benefit from the international and interdisciplinary research environment at the ZMB, excellent equipment facilities and a structured doctoral training program. The ZMB in Essen integrates medical research at the University Hospital and natural sciences at the Campus. The mission is to elucidate molecular mechanisms of disease and to turn this knowledge into medical progress.

The position will start as soon as possible initially for 3 years.
