Ph.D. Student Position

The “Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Group” (Prof. Henning Urlaub) at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry invites applications for a

Ph. D. Student Position
(Code Number 15-16)

The Urlaub group is looking for a highly motivated PhD student who will work on mass-spectrometric analysis of protein–nucleic acid interaction (Kramer et al., Nat Methods, 2014, 11, 1064-1070; Zaman et al., 2015, Mol. Cell Proteomics, 14, 3196-3210). The work is part of the DFG priority program “Deciphering the mRNP code: RNA-bound determinants of post-transcriptional gene regulation (SPP 1935)”.

The successful candidate will be embedded within the SPP and will benefit from its various interactive projects. He/she should have a strong background in protein and/or nucleic acid biochemistry as well as in protein and/or nucleic acid analytical techniques. Basic knowledge of mass-spectrometric methods, e.g. electrospray ionization MS and relevant software, e.g. Excel and “R” as well as basic programming skills (e.g. Python) is also desirable.

We offer an international and highly productive and innovative working atmosphere and provide state-of-the-art mass-spectrometric equipment (e.g. Q-Exactive HF, Orbitrap Fusion, Orbitrap Lumos) for research.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible. The successful applicant will receive a salary according to the funding guidelines for young researchers of the Max Planck Society.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.
Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
