At the Department of Biology I, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, one of the Universities of Excellence in Germany

a PhD position in Plant Molecular Biology,

is available from 01.12.2015 at the earliest.

Our central research topic is the molecular dissection of regulatory processes linked to photosynthesis. (further information: http://www.botanik.bio.lmu.de/forschung/leister/forschung/index.html).

To strengthen our team we are looking for a PhD student for the project
  • Intracellular signalling (recommended reading: Leister Front Plant Sci 19:135. doi: 10.3389/fpls.2012.00135. eCollection 2012; Kleine et al. Trends Genet 25: 185-192. doi: 10.1016/j.tig.2009.02.004)
Signals originating from chloroplasts and mitochondria modulate nuclear gene expression (retrograde signaling). The aim of our research is to understand how the signals are generated in the organelles and then relayed to the nucleus. Those results will not only increase our understanding of photosynthesis regulation. But many of the components of signalling networks are common to abiotic/acclimation pathways and many stimuli are found in all organisms ranging from bacteria to humans. The knowledge derived from this project therefore will advance our understanding of signal transduction per se and provides the basis for generation of crop plants with improved properties.

Thus, we are investigating intracellular signalling pathways with various cutting-edge technologies that include Next Generation Sequencing, biochemistry, inducible RNAi and protein over-expression, reporter gene based expression studies, RNA-seq and biophysical and analytical approaches.

Interested and motivated applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry. An interest in bioinformatics would be of advantage.
We offer a well-equipped, modern and highly interactive research environment within the LMU Biology Campus, Martinsried.

Handicapped applicants will be favored in the case of equal qualification.

Applications (CV, letter of motivation and the contact details of two referees) should be sent per e-mail (subject:”PhD position intracellular signalling”) until 30.10.2015 to: botanik1@lrz.uni-muenchen.de
