PhD Position - Marie-Curie Innovative Training Network - “DohART-NET” - Gene Center LMU

The Laboratory for Functional Genome Analysis (LAFUGA) at the Gene Center - LMU, is an integrated technology platform consisting of the three research units Genomics, Proteomics, and Model Organisms. The research activities of the proteomics unit comprise proteomic characterization of large animal disease models for translational research (Diabetes, Duchenne muscular dystrophy) and proteome analysis in the context of mammalian reproduction.

Activities and responsibilities

Within the Marie-Curie Innovative Training Network “DohART-NET“, the proteomics unit of the Laboratory for Functional Genome Analysis (LAFUGA) at the Gene Center, LMU Munich, is looking for a highly motivated and skilled PhD student (m/f/d). DohART-Net is focusing on effects of altered conditions during the periconceptional (PC) period and integrates pre-clinical (animal and stem cell models) and clinical studies. The applicant will focus on effects of maternal diabetes on the proteomes of various tissues from neonatal offspring of transgenic pig models for (pre)-diabetes. Moreover, as a readout for maternal diabetes induced effects on the embryos inner cell mass environment, proteomes of blastocoel fluid from rabbits will be analyzed. For all experiments, latest mass spectrometry-based technologies will be used.

Qualification profile

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student with:
  • An excellent Master’s degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry or a related subject
  • Hands-on laboratory experience and strong interest in proteomic analysis
  • Background in biochemical / molecular biology techniques
  • Expertise in bioinformatics or mass spectrometry is advantageous

Eligibility (mandatory for funding)
  • Have not been awarded a PhD already
  • Less than 4 years research experience at the signature of the contract (counting from the time the Master’s degree has been obtained)
  • Spent less than 12 months in Germany in the 3 years prior to selection
  • Excellent knowledge of the spoken and written English language
  • Excellent communication and team working skills

We offer

The project implies a series of secondments at partner labs for additional training. The candidate will strongly benefit from a network of internationally recognized scientists and the participation of companies with relevant interests and expertise in the field.

The position will be on a temporary basis for a period of 36 months (Regular employment contract). The candidate will receive a Monthly Living Allowance plus a Mobility Allowance compliant with the applicable EC Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions-ITN general conditions. The LMU is an equal opportunity employer. Disabled candidates with equal qualifications will be given preference.
