PhD position Microbiology and Natural Product Research
The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute – (HKI, www.leibniz-hki.de) investigates the pathobiology of human-pathogenic fungi and identifies targets for the development of novel natural product-based antibiotics. The Junior Research Group Chemistry of Microbial Communication invites talented and highly gifted candidates to apply for a
starting as soon as possible for two years initially.
Main topics of the project may include:
- Isolation and structure elucidation of natural products from eukaryote-prokaryote interactions
- Elucidation of biosynthetic pathways of natural products
- Genetic modification of bacteria
- Cultivation and co-cultivation of bacteria and amoebae
We offer you a challenging project, which involves partners from several engineering- and life science oriented Leibniz Institutes, state-of-the-art instrumentation, and great work opportunities in a dynamic research institute with high reputation. As a postdoc/PhD student you will be a member of the Friedrich Schiller university graduate academy, which offers excellent key competence courses. The successful candidate will be hosted in the Junior Research Group Chemistry of Microbial Communication (Dr. Pierre Stallforth).
Salary is paid according to German TV-L (salary agreement for public service employees). As an equal opportunity employer the HKI is committed to increase the percentage of female scientists and therefore especially encourages them to apply.

About Leibniz-Institut für Naturstoff-Forschung und Infektionsbiologie
The Leibniz-Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology (HKI) identifies and investigates natural products produced by microorganisms, mainly fungi, to understand their role as mediators of biological communication and to use them for the elucidation of cellular processes. Furthermore, scientists at the Institute are interested in understanding the pathobiology of...More about Leibniz-Institut für Naturstoff-Forschung und Infektionsbiologie
