PhD position Mitochondrial Quality Control in Düsseldorf

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student

for a project on the role of mitochondrial quality control in human diseases in the lab of Prof. Andreas Reichert, Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology I, Medical School, Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany. We are an international team with a very well equipped lab and a collaborative working environment.
Mitochondrial dysfunction is linked to the pathogenesis of a number of human diseases including neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, diabetes, various cardiomyopathies, and hepatic encephalopathy. The latter is a severe neuro-psychiatric syndrome caused by liver failure which will be in the center of this DFG funded project. Here we will use state-of-the-art techniques including live-cell confocal fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, and standard genetic and biochemical tools to assess the role mitochondrial quality control in hepatic encephalopathy.

We are looking for a strong candidate having
  • a master degree (or equivalent) in biochemistry, biophysics, biology, chemistry, or other closely related fields of natural sciences.
  • practical experience in laboratory work and basic biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology techniques.
  • very good proficiency in writing and speaking English.
  • strong interest to work in an international team
  • passion for science and the motivation to work on an innovative project.
 
Job Position
A PhD position (E13, 65%) for the period of two years with the possibility of extension.
