PhD student

 Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität  München
PhD student position for a DZIF (Deutsches Zentrum für Infektionsforschung)- funded broad-spectrum antivirals project (January 2016, three years)

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated PhD student (TV-L) to join our Coronavirus research group at the Max-von-Pettenkofer Insititute, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.

Coronaviruses (CoVs) are important human and animal pathogens that induce respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological disease. Six distinct CoVs cause respiratory tract illness in humans, ranging from mild common cold to virus-associated pneumonia. Some CoVs have zoonotic potential. At least seven different animal CoVs cause economically significant epizootics in livestock. We have identified potent broad-range inhibitors of cellular proteins interfering with viral replication. The project aims at the elucidation of the inhibitory mechanisms at viral and cellular levels and will contribute to future antiviral therapies.

The PhD student position requires a Masters degree in Life Sciences (biochemistry, biology, vetinary medicine, medicine) or related disciplines. For both positions, background in molecular biology, virological, immunological, eukaryotic cell culture techniques is preferred, but no prerequisite. Lab work is performed in S1 and S2 laboratories.
