The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation is seeking to recruit a
PhD Student in Bioinformatics

The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation. It is located on the campus of the University of Mainz in Germany. Applications are invited for a PhD student position in the laboratory of Dr Vijay Tiwari (www.imb-mainz.de/research-at-imb/tiwari). The successful applicant will contribute to internationally competitive research on Epigenetic Regulation of Development. The group employs high-throughput epigenomics assays such as ChIP-seq and RNA-seq in combination with stem cell biology and neurobiology as well as cutting-edge epigenetics and molecular biology tools. The resulting datasets are analyzed using bioinformatics, statistics and systems biology tools to generate a comprehensive model of epigenetic regulation of gene expression during embryonic development. Information on the scientific background can be found at:

You will
  • Study epigenetic regulatory mechanisms that contribute to embryonic development
  • Analyse epigenomics datasets for solving complex biological questions
  • Work in close cooperation with experimental researchers to facilitate novel discoveries
  • Obtain training in epigenomics, computational biology and developmental biology
  • Work in close collaboration with the group leader and other group members
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners

We offer
  • The possibility to work on a cutting-edge project using state-of-the-art technology in a highly motivated research team
  • A stimulating, diverse and international research environment
  • Advanced training opportunities
  • A competitive stipend

Required Qualifications
  • Master or Diploma in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Informatics, Physics, Mathematics or related areas
  • Motivation to solve complex biological problems
  • Excellent communication skills

To express an interest in the position, please email a single PDF file containing your cover letter, CV (in English) and scans of your degrees to Dr Vijay Tiwari (v.tiwari@imb-mainz.de). Eligible applicants will subsequently be asked to officially apply via IMB’s International PhD Programme (www.imb-mainz.de/PhD). IMB is an equal opportunity employer.

Starting date: April 2016 or later
