Postdoc Position at Leibniz Institute on Aging

The Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute e.V. (FLI) is a research institute, which has the objective of understanding the molecular mechanisms of aging. Thereby we would like to contribute to healthy aging in humans. Various animal models (e.g. mice and fish) help us to generate relevant knowledge on the causes and the mechanisms of age-associated diseases and to investigate new therapeutic approaches. Scientists from many different nations conduct research at FLI.

The Research group Stem Cell Aging of Prof. Lenhard Rudolph, scientific director at FLI, invites applications for a
Postdoc Position

Research focus of the Lab / Research projects:
The research group is engaged in investigating the antecedents, processes and consequences of stem cell aging. Adult stem cells are essential for the lifelong maintenance and regeneration of various organs and tissues including skin and epithelial tissues, skeletal muscle, as well as the hematopoietic and the immune system. Experimental and clinical data indicate that the functional capacity of adult stem cells in organ regeneration declines during aging. Molecular mechanisms that cause impairments in stem cell function during aging are still incompletely understood.

Profile of the candidate/Requirements:
  • Successful PhD degree in Molecular and Cell Biology or other related fields
  • highly self-motivated with a genuine interest in DNA damage, stem cell aging and/or epigentics
  • good team-working capabilities
  • know-how in molecular biology
  • experience in animal work, transgenesis, tissue processing, in situ hybridisation

We offer
  • a position in a well-equipped research group of a high quality institute for age research, which harbours several state-of-the-art facilities. Our work is embedded in the Beutenberg Campus, an interdisciplinary base for innovative research.
  • a position integrated in the FLI PostDoc Network. The Network promotes interdisciplinary collaborations involving clinician scientists, basic scientists and bioinformaticians.
  • a contract which is limited for two years initially. The contract conditions and the salary will be according to the collective labour agreement for public service employees of the federal states of Germany (TV-L E13)

About Leibniz-Institut für Alternsforschung

Außeruniversitäre Forschungseinrichtung Mitglied der Leibniz Gemeinschaft  (WGL) Our Mission Human ageing is a multifactorial process controlled by both environmental and genetic factors. Our mission is to understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie the ageing process and that lead to age-related diseases. We hope that eventually this knowledge can contribute...
