The Heinrich Pette Institute - Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology (HPI), is committed to research on the biology of different human viruses as well as the pathogenesis of viral diseases ( The HPI offers the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research in a world-class research environment with excellent technical and animal facilities.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with team spirit, a high degree of curiosity and eagerness to learn and make fundamental scientific discoveries. The candidate should hold a PhD degree, preferably completed within the past three years, in a field related to virology, cancer research or chromatin biology. Profound experience with experimental molecular biology work is expected, expertise in the fields of tumor virology, genomics or bioinformatics is a plus.

Our position is to be filled for up to two years in the “Virus Genomics” group (head: Prof. Adam Grundhoff) with the possibility of extension. Payment and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TV-AVH (salary agreement for public service employees).

Work in the research group of Adam Grundhoff focuses on tumorigenic DNA viruses, in particular Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) as well as the recently discovered Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV), and strives to unravel the molecular mechanisms that allow viral persistence and contribute to virus-induced disease (
