Postdoctoral research associate
in the Bacteriophage Group (led by Dr. Christine Rohde) within the Department of Microorganisms. Initial appointment will be for 24 months with a salary level at the German public pay scale of TV-L E 13. The position is offered full time and not suitable for part time work. Starting date will be as soon as possible and ideally not later than January 2016.
The post-doctoral project will focus on the application of phages for commercially-oriented environmental detection of pathogenic bacteria. A technical assistant will be supervised by and support the post-doc to enable higher throughput and more efficient results. Essential skills for the position are a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in the field of microbiology, working knowledge of bacteriophages, phage and bacterial cultivation, and general microbiology techniques. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in leading cooperative, distributed projects, strong communication skills that will enable effective interaction with offsite partners within Germany, and strengths in goal-oriented project management. Additional desirable skills include experience with Legionella and/or direct experience with commercial applications projects and partners. Strong English skills are essential and knowledge of German would be a plus.
