Bioimage Analyst

The Core Facility Imaging of the “Cluster of Excellence on Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases” (CECAD) at the University of Cologne invites applications for a position as
Bioimage Analyst (m/f)
 
in Full Time (39.83 hours per week). The position is available immediately. The initial contract is for 2 years with the possibility of further extension. The salary will be according to group 13 TV-L with appropriate prerequisite.
 
The CECAD Imaging facility is recruiting a highly motivated candidate for image processing and analysis. The facility provides a variety of modern light microscopes (including multiphoton and superresolution microscopes) as well as a Cryo-TEM and supports life scientists with all aspects related to their imaging projects, including: design of imaging experiments, choice of and training on suitable imaging systems, image processing, visualization and analysis. Furthermore, the facility provides all necessary infrastructure, including data management solutions.
 
We are seeking an ambitious candidate who is a proactive and service-oriented team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Besides helping scientists with their data analysis, setting up of user-tailored analysis programs as well as maintenance and service of current imaging systems and the computer network environment are part of your job.
 
Requirements:
The successful candidate should have a master´s or doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in (bio)informatics, (bio)physics, engineering or lifesciences (University or University of Applied Sciences). To strengthen the image analysis part of the facility, strong skills in at least one relevant programming language (Python, Matlab, Java, R) and experience in image analysis / computer vision are required. Fluency in English and a service-oriented mindset to support scientists with both, trivial, and advanced aspects, of their imaging projects are important.
 
Optional qualifications:
Experience in light microscopy is of advantage, but not a prerequisite. Ideally, the candidates should have worked in an imaging facility before.
Ideally, the candidates should have experience in light microscopy and microscopy data analysis. Knowledge in ImageJ/Fiji including Macro scripting or writing plugins is a big plus.
