Research Technician

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

The EMBL Hamburg Outstation offers an international and stimulating environment for research in molecular structural biology. The molecular and biochemistry laboratory at EMBL Hamburg is used for research projects with a main focus on sample preparation for structural biology studies. The lab is equipped for protein production in several expression systems, large-scale purification and biochemical analyses. The laboratory technician will be associated with the group of Matthias Wilmanns. The Wilmanns group investigates a variety of protein-ligand complexes within the context of biological systems.

Main tasks of the laboratory technician are:
 
  • To be involved in day-to-day lab management together with other members of the wet lab team
  • To manage laboratory supplies as well as purchasing
  • To be responsible for equipment maintenance in coordination with service technicians
  • To contribute in ongoing research projects under the supervision of scientists that are members of the Wilmanns group.
Qualifications and Experience
 
Applicants should have a bachelor in a relevant field (biology, chemistry or related disciplines). Working experience in molecular biology or protein biochemistry is essential. Previous experience using ÄKTA FPLC systems will be considered advantageous. Good knowledge of desktop software applications (Word, Excel) is necessary. Applicants need to be proficient in English and have a good knowledge of spoken German.
