Research technician (BTA)

The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) (http://www.mpipz.mpg.de) is one of the world’s premier sites committed to basic research and training in plant science. The institute comprises four science departments, three independent research groups and specialist support totaling about 400 staff including externally funded positions. The position is available in the Department of Plant Microbe Interactions, studying fundamental molecular processes underlying interactions between plants and microbes.

Field of work
The candidate will work in close collaboration with our senior post-doctoral scientists. The main task of the applicant will consist of cultivating and characterizing microbes and microbial communities from plants and soil. Experience in microbiology, molecular biology, and in handling plants is advantageous (further information on our research: http://www.mpipz.mpg.de/schulze-lefert). Additional tasks will involve maintaining and sequence-indexing microbial collections, preparing culture media, ordering laboratory materials and organizing a S2 laboratory.

Profile
The successful candidate has completed professional training as a research technician preferably with first professional experience. We are searching for a highly motivated candidate with an organized working style and team orientation. The applicant should be enthusiastic about scientific research in an international environment. Good computer skills as well as fluent English are required.

We offer a stimulating and multi-faceted position (full-time employment) in a friendly and international environment. Payment and benefits are according the German TVöD with a contract duration of one year (starting August 17th 2015).
