Intern with diving experience in dry suits for an expedition to Madre de Dios Archipielago in march/april 2016 (15.3.-4.4. aprox)
We are planning a 10 day expedition of the marine benthic fauna of Madre de Dios Archipielago. The aim of the study is to look at the hydrocoral mortality which we described from the area. We need to install recruitment plates, fixed spots, sensors and map the extension of the mortality. We are looking for an intern to help with diving and general tasks. We will be 9 people. During the 10 days on Guarello, we will live on the carbon mine and get food from there. We will be working intensely to get as much done as possible since the trip is very expensive, and the area very isolated.
We will need 22 h in each direction to travel with a boat from Puerto Natales to Guarello (and back) where the expedition takes place. Then we will pass 10 days on a beautiful island. Thus we need easy going and enthusiastic people, who bring good mood. The intern should have over 30 cold water dives and be able to bring their own dive gear with them.
The intern should fly to Punta Arenas for the start of the trip and can take the bus to Puerto Natales from there. If he/she wants, they can also come to Huinay before or after the trip to help with preparations and unpacking/sorting samples.
Looking forward to applications including your CV and a letter of interest. We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. You will get to areas of spectacular beauty where no or few scientists have been before.
