Laboratory assistant (m/f) (BTLA, MTLA, CTLA, VTLA, Bachelor Biologist)

As WHO-Supranational Reference Laboratory of Tuberculosis (TB) we are providing developmental aid and performing operational research projects with our partners in seven TB high prevalence countries in Asia, Europe and South America. We are planning to expand our team.

For our department of international development and research, we are offering a position as
Laboratory assistant (m/f)
(BTLA, MTLA, CTLA, VTLA, Bachelor Biologist)


Activities and responsibilities

  • Mykobacteriological microscopy, culture and phenotypic susceptibility testing of TB and non-tuberculous mycobacteria in the framework of international research projects;
  • DNA preparation and various molecular biological tests for the detection of TB bacteria in clinical samples;
  • Assistance to the project management of the USAID funded StopTTH project in Kyrgyzstan;
  • After sufficient training, visits to our partner sites in Central Asia and Eastern Europe for the function control and maintenance of biosafety cabinets;
  • Collaborative assistance with the continuous development of our quality management system;

Qualification profile

  • Completed apprenticeship as laboratory assistant or BSc biologist;
  • Experience in microbiological and molecular biological work;
  • Interest in further training as expert for biosafety cabinets and ventilation systems;
  • Strong soft skills as team player and communicator!
  • Good language skills (at least high level English and basic Russian language required).


  • Extensive training in mycobacteriological and molecular-biological research in a modern BSL3-laboratory;
  • Professional training as a bio-engineer for the maintenance and control of biosafety-cabinets;
  • Collaboration in a highly motivated laboratory team of scientists from six nationalities;
  • International collaboration projects with the WHO and partners in Nepal, Central Asia, Eastern and Central Europe, Bolivia and the USA;
  • A promising platform for a career in international health or science.
