Associate Scientist Manufacturing (DSP)

with a fixed – term contract for 2 years.

Job Summary

The primary focus of the Associate Scientist will be to plan, prepare and execute downstream unit operations in the protein manufacturing facility located in Göttingen.
The key deliverables for this role are the detail planning, preparation and execution of protein purification steps including the following:
  • Buffer preparation
  • Preparation and operation of Chromatography systems (Äkta)
  • Coaching and guidance of technical personnel
  • Sampling and execution of In-process controls
  • Batch documentation according to GMP requirements
  • Documentation of process deviations
  • Process data compilation and presentation
  • Execution of equipment qualification (OPQ) as required
The incumbent will also contribute as a team member to the qualification and successful startup of a new manufacturing facility in Munich.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Execute all practical work related to the downstream processing.
  • Documentation of all process steps and samples according to GMP requirements
  • Create new and update existing batch records as required
  • Execution of OPQ´s according to a defined qualification protocol
  • Guide and coach Technical Assistants
  • Compilation of process data and preparation of presentations
  • Document and proactively inform the appropriate manager of process deviations
  • Work collaboratively with internal colleagues in the upstream process team to align the daily work.

Required Qualifications
  • Proven practical experience in downstream processing (operation of chromatography systems, cross flow filtration systems, sterile filling in clean room environment)
  • Experience with GMP operations and principles.
  • Excellent team player with a good sense of humor
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with tight timelines, being able to shift priorities as required.
  • Experience in the upstream processing of recombinant microorganisms is a plus
  • Experience in the qualification (IOPQ) of process equipment and /or the validation of biopharmaceutical processes according to GMP requirements is of advantage
  • Fluency in English is an asset

Education Requirements

Bachelor or Master (preferred) degree in Biotechnology, Food Technology, Biology, Chemistry with at least 4 years of relevant experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing
