PhD student position (m/f), preferentially biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or cell biology
from October, 1st. 2014. We offer a part-time position (19,25h/w), initially limited for 3 years with the option for extension. The opportunity to receive a PhD is given. The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
Mutations in crucial components of cellular signaling pathways cause leukemia, such as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPS). The project aims at generating and characterizing induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from MPN patients with KIT D816V mutation. KIT 816V iPS cells will be differentiated into hematopoietic stem cells to establish an in vitro leukemia model of this disease. These cells will be used for analyzing the oncogenic mechanisms initiated by KIT D816V and for developing novel KIT inhibitors. The in vitro data will be validated in vivo in a transgenic KIT D816V mouse model.
The project combines the expertise of basic science and preclinical research, which guarantees a highly innovative and versatile working environment.
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious candidate with:
  • master/diploma degree (preferentially biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or cell biology)
  • experience in tissue culture work, molecular biology and biochemistry
  • high motivation for working independently in an international team
  • excellent communication skills and English in speaking and writing
