Kennziffer: 27416
Position offer: At the University of Kassel -  Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Biochemistry – Biotechnology working group
(Dr. Ioannis Pavlidis)  - starting on 01.04.2016

Part-time position with half the working hours of a full-time employee. Limited initially for 18 months (position for academic qualification corresponding to § 65 HHG i.V.m. § 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG; opportunity for PhD project).

Specification:
Services in research and teaching.
The working group of Biotechnology is active on the field of biocatalysis / biotransformation. More specifically, our goal is the development of enzymatic cascades for the efficient production of industrially-related products, and the immobilization of the respective enzymes for the potential reusability of the biocatalysts. Modern methods of biochemistry, molecular biology, nano-biotechnology and organic chemistry are used, in order to reach the scientific targets. The doctoral thesis is focused on the development of a regeneration system for the cofactor S-adenosyl-L-methionine, which is used from methyltransferases. The main target of the project is the development of an efficient in vitro process for the methylation of natural products of industrial interest.

Requirements:
  • Completed course of academic study (Master or Diploma) in fields of Biochemistry or Biotechnology with grade "good" or better.
  • Very good knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry and organic chemistry.
  • Preferably very good knowledge of biochemical and analytical working methods (HPLC, GC, UV-Vis spectroscopy, etc.).
  • Knowledge in the field of bioinformatics and material science (for enzyme immobilization).
  • Very good command of English, both written and spoken.
