PostDoc in Downstream Processing of vaccine production

Job description
The Bioprocess Engineering group of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems seeks an outstanding PostDoc for a postition in downstream processing of virus particles. The envisioned person should develop in close collaboration with an industrial partner a complete downstream process comprising clarification, capturing, intermediate purification and polishing for a cell culture-derived Modified Vaccinia Ankara virus for human applications.

Organization
The Bioprocess Engineering group of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems provides an excellent international environment for top-notch research. We are organized in five teams (i.e. biology, upstream, downstream, bio/process analytics and modeling), and perform high-level research in the fields of medical and environmental biotechnology. The research activities are also connected to the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg.

Requirements
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline and a record of outstanding research that demonstrates originally addressing significant problems in a board area of purification methods for biotechnological products. We expect the successful candidate to have profound experience in chromatographic methods, filtration, assey development and the application of design of experiment methods preferably via the software MODDE. Excellent communication skills in English are essential to cooperate with our international team and the US-based industry partner.

Conditions of employment
The appointment will be initially for a maximum of 1 year starting 1st of February 2016 with a gross monthly salary comparable to the TVöD salary scale E14, for a full time position. After one year, there will be a project assessment together with the industrial partner to decide on a project extension for another year.
