Currently, we have an opening for an
Instrument Field Service Engineer

to be based in our German office located in city of Köln (Cologne).

The Instrument Service Technician is responsible for the customer service, preventative maintenance visits and field servicing assembly of STEMCELL instruments. The role will also involve testing, troubleshooting, and assembly of STEMCELL instruments as required. This is a hands-on position requiring a high mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience in service and production environments.

  • Performance of on-site or in-house servicing, repair and/or installation of instruments
  • Provide technical support to European customers on operational or maintenance aspects of instruments
  • Conduct Preventative Maintenance visits for existing installed base of instruments
  • Serve as a customer technical contact on technical and service related problems and determine the most cost effective repair or resolution to minimize customer downtime
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hardware, software and system failures
  • Assist with inventory control (and specifically spare parts inventory for service)
  • Involvement in manufacturing and assembly of STEMCELL instruments
  • Follow written procedures consistent with ISO 13485 for component incoming inspection, part picking, instrument assembly and product release testing
  • Maintain device manufacturing, assembly and testing records
  • Service and assembly procedure writing & review
  • Perform instrument module electrical and mechanical assembly and confirm product quality with validation
  • testing
  • Provide customer support via telephone, email and onsite service
  • Supervision and instruction of junior staff
  • Assist with continuous improvement of product design and manufacturing
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures

  • A bachelor's degree or technical diploma with a minimum of 4+ years of industrial experience in ISO certified companies and 2+ years of service experience of high precision mechanical assembly
  • Understanding of robotics, vision systems, machine controls and structured problem solving skills. Specialization or on-the-job experience, required.
  • Ability to travel with short lead times within Europe and with up to 50% travel is required
  • Ability to organize and travel independently
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team are essential
  • Able to read mechanical and electrical drawings and diagrams
  • Multi-tasking, with the ability to work independently on several projects at the same time
  • Moderate computer skills, Windows OS and MS Office
  • Fluency in English and German is required
