Sales Manager Metabolic Disorders - Germany (m/f)

Position Summary – before marketing authorization (“MA”)

Pending MA approval, this position is non-promotional in scope. Incumbent will be responsible for leading and motivating a field-based team to execute the disease awareness initiatives set forth in the company objectives and achieving all assigned goals and deliverables.  After MA approval of Astophase alfa has been granted, this job description will be supplemented with a further job description, which expands the role into commercial and sales manager activities and will set forth additional responsibilities.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Responsible for staffing, leading, coaching, motivating and inspiring a team of Regional Sales Managers (RSM) to achieve or exceed agreed criteria on disease awareness in their assigned geographic region
  • Conducts regular field visits and activities reviews, to ensure that proper educational and disease awareness programs and procedures for information exchange are being followed
  • Works closely with Medical Affairs team and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate communication of medical and scientific information and response to requests for information from Healthcare Professionals in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines
  • Provides regular written and verbal feedback following stakeholder and field visits that address and support both business development and personal development needs of the RSM
  • Leads RSMs in the development of disease awareness actions plans with approved educational resources and ensures their execution
  • Creates, builds and maintains relationships and regular communication with physicians and Key Opinion Leaders
  • Responsible for leading RSM Team to identify key treatment centers, mapping of centers of expertise and medical experts in the area
  • Ensures a high level of education and knowledge sharing is delivered to all stakeholders
  • Ensures cooperative and collaborative communication between centers of excellence
  • Collects non identifiable data about symptoms and other data relevant to understand the disease in compliance with local regulations
  • Collects and shares insight from key stakeholders in the provision of healthcare services
  • Must model and oversee implementation of Alexion’s compliance and other policies
  • Conducts regular activities reviews with local Business Unit Leader to ensure alignment of objectives and goals, and personal development plans of employee and staff
  • Regularly and timely manages performance of RSMs by setting clear goals, providing and receiving feedback, and reviewing goals as appropriate. This may include corrective counseling and performance improvement planning
  • 5-8 plus years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry, with significant biotech and/or specialty sales experience preferred
  • Minimum of 2-3 years people management experience required
  • In-depth experience in one or more of following:
    • the Endocrinology and Medical Genetics specialties and/or experience interacting with physicians specialized in treating bone disorders
    • enzyme replacement therapy products
    • orphan or ultra-orphan area
    • Nephrology, Orthopedic surgery and Rheumatology specialties
    • managing a self-injected product
    • launching a biopharmaceutical in the past 5 years
  • Broad, cross-functional experience in roles, such as Marketing, Sales Operations, Medical Affairs, National/Corporate Accounts, Managed Markets, Hospital Markets, Training etc. would be an advantage
  • General knowledge and understanding of reimbursement, distribution and managed care processes especially as it relates to self-administered products
  • Effective verbal and written communication in local language and English
  • Demonstrates strong in-depth clinical, technical and scientific knowledge in complex disease state
  • Effective administrator who efficiently manages time, resources and workload to meet or exceed deadlines
  • Proven ability to manage a large geographical territory
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel which will include significant overnight and weekend travel

  • B.A./B.S. in business or scientific field is required
  • A Master’s or PhD degree is preferred
