The advertised position is embedded into the research unit “Multiscale analysis of complex three phase systems: Oxygen reduction reaction on Gas Diffusion Electrodes in aqueous electrolytes” (FOR 2397) which is funded by German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).

The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is limited to three years.
Gas diffusion electrodes (GDE) are complex composite structures which play a decisive role in different technically important electrochemical processes like fuel cells and metal-air batteries. With respect to renewable energy transition, it is expected that these systems get in future on major importance. The goal of the research unit, including 7 research teams at universities and research institutes throughout Germany, is to understand and quantify complex interactions between reaction and transport processes in the GDE and their influence on GDE performances. The focus of subproject in Magdeburg is on model based analysis of oxygen reduction reaction kinetics.

Requirements: Suitable candidates hold a Diploma degree or a Master degree in the chemical or process engineering, or related disciplines. Marks should be clearly above average. Good knowledge of reaction engineering, chemical kinetics and mathematical modeling is expected. The experience in electrochemistry is an advantage. The task requires a high level of both experimental and theoretical skills and creativity. The willingness and competence to work and publish scientifically in an interdisciplinary and international environment is expected.
