Biopsy Analysis in Cancer Research (reference No. 5011P)
M2OLIE, a joined project of Heidelberg University, Mannheim University, Mannheim University of Applied Sciences, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and several distinguished corporate partners, develops clinical applications for fast biopsy analysis based on MS fingerprints, pattern recognition/multivariate statistics,  modern databases (www.m2olie.de/projekte/leitprojekt-2) and innovative imaging
Postdoctoral Scientist Biomedical Mass Spectrometry Biopsy Analysis in Cancer Research  (Remuneration: 100 % E13 (TV-L))

Main Tasks:
The successful candidate will be part of a team (University of Heidelberg, Mannheim University of Applied Sciences, and Leica Biosystems) that investigates new methods and standardized MS Fingerprinting applications for clinical tumor classification and pharmacodynamic monitoring based on multivariate statistics. He/she will collaborate with an extensive network of academic and corporate partners, contribute to M2OLIE project management, and to the acquisition of additional funding. He/she will author key M2OLIE publications and supervise thesis projects. (key related studies by Prof. Carsten Hopf’s team: Ruh et al., J. Lipid Res., 2013; Fülöp et al., Anal. Chem., 2013; Munteanu et al., Anal. Chem., 2014; Schwartz et al., Anal. Bioanal. Chem., 2015).
M2OLIE offers state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and software development infrastructure (Bruker Impact II LC-QTOF-MS, SolariX MALDI/ESI-FTICR-MS, UltrafleXtreme MALDI-TOF MS including MS imaging and/or Thermo Fisher LC-LTQ-MS; Perkin Elmer IR spectroscopy and imaging).
Job Requirements:
The successful, highly motivated candidate has a PhD in chemistry, physics, biochemistry or similar, and several years of experience in HPLC/UPLC and mass spectrometry, in particular in QTOF-, QqQ- or ion trap-MS and/or FTICR-MS. Substantial experience in lipid, metabolite and/or small molecule analysis is required. Research success has been demonstrated in relevant publications, patent applications and/or product development.
Experience in MS analysis of biopsies or tissue sections is a significant plus, as is knowledge of MATLAB (or similar) and/or multivariate statistics and of MALDI-MS.

The M2OLIE project is termed till December 31st 2018, but may be extended.
