The Medizinisches Proteom-Center (MPC) at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany is looking for a

PhD student (E13, 50%)

to start as soon as possible. Initially, the position is limited to 3 years with an optional extension. Scientists in the group enjoy excellent working conditions in a highly interdisciplinary and friendly research environment.

The MPC has an excellent infrastructure with all current, state-of-the-art technologies and methods (mass spectrometry, 2D-gel electrophoresis, DIGE, laser microdissection, protein microarrays, bioinformatics, biostatistics etc.). More details about the MPC can be found at

The project focuses on the investigation of pathomechansims underlying neurological diseases. In close collaboration with our bioinformatics/biostatistics group new strategies should be developed for the identification of disease-relevant proteins as well as protein biomarker candidates in CSF and brain tissue.

Suitable candidates are required to have already achieved their masters or diploma degree in biochemistry, biology and/or chemistry (or related areas), and must show great interest in the development of methods and strategies for clinical proteomics. Applicants should have demonstrated outstanding performance through their undergraduate studies. Preferable are experiences in one or more of the following fields: instrumental analytics, mass spectrometry and proteomics, nanoHPLC, as well as protein-biochemical methodology. Besides creativity, a strong ability for problem solving combined with an enthusiasm for scientific research is highly desirable. Teamwork and good communication skills, fluent English as well as the ability to work in an interdisciplinary field of research are necessary.
