65% of the fulltime weekly hours, the position starts as soon as possible and is fixed-term to 31.10.2017. Subject to the continued third-party funding of the cluster after 2017, the extension of the contract may be possible. The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).
Position and Requirements
We are currently building up the new “Chair of Organic Devices” with the long-term vision to transfer Organic Electronics device technologies from the lab to commercially competitive applications in the consumer markets. Doping of organic semiconductors is a key process for organic electronics devices such as light emitting diodes or solar cells. While doping of vacuum-evaporated films is fairly well-established, solution-phase doping of thin organic films is still difficult to control. The goal of this PhD research is to develop a novel method to dope organic semiconductor surfaces via printing of a dopant ink. The successful candidate will: develop and integrate a surface doping process with the solution-shearing printing method; systematically characterize the density and depth of doped charge carriers as function of the ink parameters and printing conditions to optimize the process; fabricate electronic devices that employ this doping process, including novel device types on the basis of the organic field effect transistor structure.
We aim at attracting the best talent in the respective research fields and look for: an outstanding university master degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, physics, electronics, materials science or related field of physical sciences; strong knowledge in device physics/semiconductor physics; ideally prior experience with thin film deposition from solution phase and chemical surface modifications; previous experience in fabrication of organic electronics devices; very good interpersonal and communication skills; in particular, the ability to effectively work in collaborative research efforts; an independent, target- and solution-driven work attitude; inter- and multidisciplinary thinking; strong motivation and interest to join one of the most ambitious interdisciplinary research clusters; fluency in English - written and oral.
