Terms: 50% of the fulltime weekly hours, starts as soon as possible, fixed-term until 31.10.2017.
The period of employment is governed by § 2 Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).
 
Position and Requirements
We are in the process of starting a new research group for Chemical Information Processing with the long-term vision of shaping the way future analytical systems are operated. Therefore, novel stimuli-responsive hydrogels have to be prepared and fitted into chemical integrated circuits (ICs). The hydrogels act as logic switches, regulating flows of matter. The overall goal is to process chemical information in a flexible and universal manner.
The successful candidate will: synthesize functional hydrogels and characterize their behavior towards chemical stimuli; develop novel strategies for the use of stimuli responsive hydrogels in chemical information processing; fabricate chemical circuits and characterize them; assist in organizing the research projects.
We aim at attracting the best talent in the respective research fields and expect the following: an outstanding university degree (master or equivalent) in chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, physics or related fields; previous experience in organic, polymer or inorganic synthesis; experiences with simulation tools for molecular mechanics, microfluidic design or quantum chemistry are a plus; prior experience with designing and assembling microfluidic devices or small prototype devices used in research is desirable; very good interpersonal and communication skills; in particular, the ability to effectively work in collaborative research efforts; an independent, target- and solution-driven work attitude; inter- and multidisciplinary thinking; strong motivation and interest to join one of the most ambitious interdisciplinary research clusters; fluency in English - written and oral.
