1 Scientific co-worker / PhD student (50% TV-L E 13).
The position is financed by the DFG in frame of the Priority Program 1928 „COORNET – coordination networks“. The funded research project entitled: „Proton conducting and hydrophilic coordination polymers – synthesis, spectroscopic investigation and incorporation in fuel cell membranes“ will be executed in collaboration with groups at the Universities Kiel and Paderborn.
Scope of the project is the creation, understanding, and exploitation of proton-conducting coordination polymers (PCCPs) in fuel cell composite membranes of various compositions with a real-time in-situ monitoring of humidity and proton conductivity. Special emphasis will be placed on introducing -PO3H2 or -PO3H- groups and additional proton carriers to create materials with high and stable proton conductivity. The structure-property relationship and the role of water molecules and particle size of the PCCPs will be studied in detail. To investigate their possible application in fuel cells, composite polymer membranes with the PCCPs will be fabricated and tested.
The research tasks at the University of Oldenburg include:
- search for suitable combinations of CPs (mostly synthesized in Kiel) and protic ionic liquids, including the syntheses of the latter,
- synthesis of composite membranes from the different functionalized CP materials and suitable acid-base blend polymers,
- characterization of the composite polymers (gas sorption, impedance spectroscopy),
- testing of the composite membranes in fuel cell arrangements and
- presentation and publication of the results.
Required is a Master degree (or diploma) in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science. Candidates should have experience in (i) synthesis of functional materials, (ii) structural characterization, (iii) electrochemistry, including impedance spectroscopy, and (iv) polymer science. Good knowledge in Chemical Technology is important as well.
