Master/Diploma Thesis Project: Synthesis of Photoresponsive Polymers

Photoresponsive polymers are smart polymers that are responsive to light. Light can control properties and function of these polymers. Photoresponsive polymers show applications in drug delivery, information storage, lithography, and actuators. The related previous work of our group in this field can be found on http://www.mpip-mainz.mpg.de/4392775/Dr_Si_Wu
 
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a background in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, or related fields. The successful candidate will work in an international environment and should be able to speak English fluently. The candidate will carry out the following tasks:

• to synthesize photoresponsive monomers and polymers
• to characterize the synthetic compounds
• to study the photoresponsive properties of the polymers
