Ph.D. Position in Colloid Chemistry (Salary Scale 13 TV-L/65%)

The University of Konstanz with its “Institutional Strategy to promote Top-Level Research” has been receiving continuous funding since 2007 within the framework of the Excellence Initiative by the German Federal and State Governments.
 
The Chair of Colloid Chemistry is offering a
 
Ph.D. Position
(Salary Scale 13 TV-L / 65 %)
 
for a motivated student interested in gaining a Ph.D. in the field of nanostructured materials. The contract is at first limited to two years with the possibility of an extension. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
 
The research project at the interface of chemistry, physics and materials science will include the following aspects: synthesis and surface-functionalization of nanoparticles, formation of organized nanoparticle films, and, most importantly fundamental understanding of structure and phase behaviour of complex nanoparticle arrays. Besides well-founded chemical expertise, a keen interest in physical questions is expected.
 
Your profile:
The candidate should have a Master degree in Chemistry or Physics with a strong background in colloid or material science. Further requirements include the capability of conducting independent research, scientific writing, good communication skills in English, and amenability to work with project partners. Knowledge of the German language is advantageous but not a requirement. The successful candidate should show an exceptional level of motivation, and readiness to push a demanding research project forward.
