PhD Position (m/f/d) in Computational Biology

The research group ‘Molecular Simulations and Design’ headed by Dr Matthias Stein is working on structure-based multiscale simulations in chemistry and biology.

The Max Planck Institute in Magdeburg is performing interdisciplinary research in the area of synthesis, analysis and control of highly complex processes in biotechnology, chemical production, and energy conversion.

Activities and responsibilities

We are looking for a PhD Student (m/f/d) to perform studies on structure-based studies on the exploitation of novel drug targets.

In close collaboration with experimental partners from the Medical Faculty, advanced computational methods will be developed and used to exploit the drugability of protein structures. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations plus fragment-based ligand design and advanced methods to obtain accurate binding energies will be important.

Qualification profile

We are looking for candidates with a Master degree in computational/theoretical chemistry or biology and experience with Molecular Dynamics simulations and protein structure modelling. Experience in programming (C/C++) and methods development is highly advantageous. Successful candidates should  be  highly  motivated,  have  excellent  interpersonal  and  communication  skills,  be  able  to  work  independently,  and  favor  interdisciplinary  communication  across  disciplines  and  creative  thinking.

Benefits

We offer a PhD position (65%, TVöD E13) for a period of three years (starting on 1st October 2019).
